Mid-to-high-end sweaters, with their high-quality fabrics, exquisite craftsmanship and fashionable designs, have become the darlings of many people's wardrobes. However, such sweaters are often made of delicate materials and are prone to damage if not washed and cared for properly. Mastering the correct washing and care methods and avoiding the pitfalls can keep sweaters in good condition for a long time.
The choice of detergent is the first hurdle in personal care. Many people, for convenience, casually pick up ordinary laundry detergent or soap at home to wash mid-to-high-end sweaters. This is a big no-no. Most common detergents are alkaline. However, the fibers of materials such as wool and cashmere commonly used in mid-to-high-end sweaters are prone to damage in an alkaline environment, becoming rough, losing their luster, and even experiencing problems like shedding and shrinking. Neutral detergents specifically designed for materials such as wool and cashmere should be selected. These detergents are mild in nature and can better protect the fibers of sweaters. When purchasing, pay attention to checking the product instructions to ensure that it is suitable for the washing and care of mid-to-high-end sweaters.
Water temperature control is also of vital importance. Some people think that hot water can better remove stains, but they don't know that high temperature is the "number one killer" of mid-to-high-end sweaters. Excessively high water temperature can cause the fibers of sweaters to shrink rapidly, leading to deformation and shrinkage of the sweaters. Generally speaking, warm water at around 30℃ is the most suitable. When preparing the cleaning water, you can first feel the water temperature with your hand. If it feels warm but not scalding, it basically meets the requirements. If it is winter and the temperature of tap water is relatively low, do not directly mix it with hot water. You can let the tap water stand for a while until its temperature approaches room temperature before using it.
The cleaning method should also not be ignored. Many people are accustomed to rubbing sweaters as hard as they do ordinary clothes, believing that this will make them cleaner. In fact, the fibers of mid-to-high-end sweaters are relatively fragile. Vigorous rubbing can cause the fibers to tangle together, resulting in deformation and pilling of the sweater. The correct way is to put the sweater in warm water, add an appropriate amount of detergent, and gently stir to allow the detergent to dissolve fully. Then, immerse the sweater in the water for 10 to 15 minutes to fully soften the stains. For areas prone to dirt such as the collar and cuffs, you can gently press and rub them with your fingers, but the movements must be gentle.
There are also certain considerations regarding the drying method. It is a common mistake to hang sweaters directly on hangers to dry. This will cause the sweater to be stretched and deformed under the effect of gravity, especially the shoulder area, which is prone to bulging. The correct way to dry a sweater is to lay it flat on a clean clothes drying basket or a well-ventilated surface and let it dry naturally. At the same time, direct sunlight should be avoided as the ultraviolet rays in sunlight can cause the fibers of sweaters to age and fade. If the weather is humid, you can place a fan beside the sweater to speed up air circulation and help the sweater dry faster.
In addition, mid-to-high-end sweaters should not be washed frequently. Excessive washing not only damages the fibers but also reduces the thermal insulation performance of the sweater. If there are no obvious stains, it is more appropriate to wash it after wearing it 3 to 5 times.
The washing and care of mid-to-high-end sweaters require extra care to avoid the above-mentioned pitfalls, so that the sweaters can always remain soft, comfortable, beautiful and elegant, accompanying us through more wonderful times.
